Why do leaders need emotional intelligence?
Prasanna .Sap
Emotional intelligence (EQ)is your ability to recognize your emotions as well as the emotions of those around you, and your ability to use those emotions to develop your behavior and relationships. Unlike traits such as Intelligence Quotient (IQ) or personality, you can develop EQ through practice and persistence (Travis B. And Jean .G,2009).
How Emotional Intelligence Became a Key Leadership Skill?
Building relationships: Leaders with high emotional intelligence are better able to build strong relationships with their team members, customers, and other stakeholders. They are able to listen empathetically, communicate effectively, and connect with people on a deeper level. This helps to foster trust, loyalty, and engagement.
Managing conflicts: Conflict is an inevitable part of any workplace, but leaders with high emotional intelligence are better equipped to manage it. They are able to remain calm and objective, communicate clearly, and find solutions that satisfy all parties involved.
Making better decisions: Leaders with high emotional intelligence are able to make better decisions because they are able to consider the emotions and perspectives of others. They are able to weigh the pros and cons of different options and choose the best course of action based on the impact it will have on people.
Conclusion
Emotional intelligence(EQ),
refers to the ability to understand and manage one's own emotions, as well as
to recognize and influence the emotions of others. Leaders who possess high
emotional intelligence are more effective at building and maintaining
relationships, inspiring and motivating their teams, and making better decisions.
